Like most laptops, Dell laptops use lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion polymer batteries are kinds of lithium-ion battery. Lithium-ion-polymer batteries have become famous in recent years and have become the standard in the electronics industry, with customers favoring the compact form factor (especially with newer ultra-thin laptops) and long lasting batteries. Lithium-ion polymer battery technology can cause the battery cells to swell.
A swollen battery can affect the performance of the laptop. To avoid possible further damage to the body of the device or internal components that may cause malfunctioning, stop using the laptop computer and discharge it by disconnecting the AC adaptor and allowing the battery to empty by itself. Swollen batteries should not be used and should be replaced and disposed of according to applicable requirements. We recommend that you contact Dell Technical Support to learn more about options for replacing swollen batteries under the terms of the warranty or applicable service contract, including options for replacement by a certified service technician recognized by Dell.
To discharge the battery, disconnect the AC adaptor from the system and handle the system when powered by the battery only.
Using a non-Dell or incompatible battery may increase the risk of fire or explosion. Replace the battery only with a compatible battery purchased from Dell that is designed to work with your Dell computer. Do not use the battery from another computer.
